Brussels, BE

The European Small Wind Investors Association (ESWIA) is an international non-profit organization (AISBL) headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. We represent private and professional investors — both natural and legal persons — who invest in small wind energy installations across Europe.

Founded to bridge the gap between investors, manufacturers, policymakers, and researchers, ESWIA serves as the central platform for promoting high-quality, certified, European-made small wind technology.

Who We Represent

Private investors, professional investors, SMEs, energy communities, and institutional investors who are committed to small wind energy projects certified under IEC 61400-2.

Legal Form

ESWIA is established as an Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif (AISBL) under Belgian law, providing international recognition and proximity to EU institutions.

IEC 61400-2

IEC 61400-2 Certification

The International Standard for Small Wind Turbine Excellence

IEC 61400-2 is the internationally recognized standard for the design, testing, and certification of small wind turbines with a rotor swept area below 200 m². It ensures safety, structural integrity, and performance reliability.

ESWIA requires all supported investment projects to use turbines certified under IEC 61400-2 or equivalent recognized standards, protecting investors and ensuring quality.

What It Covers

Design requirements, safety systems, structural integrity, electrical systems, mechanical components, and performance testing for turbines under 200 m² rotor swept area.

Why It Matters for Investors

Certified turbines demonstrate proven performance, reduced risk, bankability for financing, and compliance with European CE marking requirements.

CE Marking & EU Compliance

IEC 61400-2 certification supports CE marking under the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, and EMC Directive — mandatory for legal sale within the EU market.

Supporting European Manufacturing Excellence

ESWIA actively promotes the design, manufacture, and installation of small wind turbines within the European Union. This commitment supports Europe's strategic energy autonomy, creates high-quality jobs, and ensures the highest manufacturing standards.

Through our "ESWIA Made in EU Small Wind" quality label, we certify turbines that meet both IEC 61400-2 technical standards and European origin requirements.

ESWIA Quality Label

Our proprietary quality label certifies that a small wind turbine meets IEC 61400-2 standards, carries CE marking, and is manufactured within the EU with verified European value-added content.
